Washington Redskins

29 December 2008

Hey Guys!

Even though it took a last second field goal from Joe Nedney, we beat the Washington Redskins.  And between you and me, we deserved it.  We outplayed them all game, survived a bad second quarter, and finished the game strongly.  We finished the season on an up-note by beating a good Washington Redskin team that had their playoff hopes broken last week.  All we did was put the final nail in the coffin.

A statement win at a good but reeling Washington Redskins team will help show the league that the 49ers are ready to win, and that they are a confident team.

To help this team attitude, the 49ers have"added" to their throwback uniforms for the game against the Redskins: They will all be sporting mustaches as a symbol of their team unity and their determination to win a BIG game against the Redskins.

Another week is in the books in the National Football League as we head to Week 15. But first let's take a look back at the week that was...Week 14! (my tongue is getting twisted) Several surprising outcomes this past Sunday including a few of the games I picked. I went a disappointing 1-3 in my picks. Very poor performance on my part. I'm finally realizing I'll never have a grip on the NFL. It's the most inconsistent professional sport out there. Any team can lose on any given week. But enough sulking, let's get on to this week's Fallout Report!

ve something to say when the season ends.

Winners - Dallas Cowboys

4) Washington Redskins @ Baltimore Ravens

The 7-5 Washington Redskins will take on the 8-4 Baltimore Ravens in Baltimore in this Sunday Night match-up. This is a big game for both teams. The Redskins' playoff hopes will take a big hit with another loss and the Ravens are still hunting for a AFC playoff bid and with a Pittsburgh loss, the two teams will be virtually tied in the AFC North. So big stakes on the table in this one. The Ravens have played better at home than on the road this season. Washington...eh. This is a team that started out red-hot, but has cooled down as of late. I'll go with my gut and pick Baltimore in this one at home. Joe Flacco and company have played well this season.

Week 13 is in the books as we are getting closer to the playoffs in the National Football League (still 4 weeks away, but with the way this season has flown bye, it won't be long!). Before I begin I want to apologize to my 3 readers for not keeping up with the Fallout Report. I'll have it on time (every Tuesday) from now until the playoffs. With that said, let's see how I did!

Yesterday, the Cowboys defeated the San Francisco 49ers, at Texas Stadium, by a score of 35-22.  Don’t let the score fool you, the ‘Boys were in cruise control mid-way through the 2nd quarter.  The Cowboys defense started off a little shaky, but they were able to limit the 49ers to field goals.  After the 1st quarter, the boys trailed 6-0, but that’s when it happened…the game changed in an instant!

Just this past Sunday (November 16th), something occurred in the NFL during a post-game news conference that has left me dumbfounded.  The Eagles and Bengals played to a 13-13 tie.  Usually that would be news in of itself, since ties are very rare in the NFL.  In fact, the last tie came in 2002.  The last time an Eagles game ended in a tie was, coincidentally, on November 16, 1997 against the Baltimore Ravens.  But what’s got my panties all up in a bunch is what Donovan McNabb had to say after the game.

Week 11 was one of the more interesting weeks in the NFL this season. A game ended in a 11-10 score for the first time in NFL history, a game ended in a tie and we also saw 'America's Team' get back on track with their star quarterback at the helm. I'll get to that and more as this week's Fallout report kicks off.......riiiiight now!

The crystal ball bit off a little more than it could chew this past week.  After all was said and done, the crystal ball was 1-2-1.  That puts me at 17-18-1 for the season, a little under .500 (approx.  .486)…not very good!  I went out on a limb with two major upsets, and I got burned…not to mention the debacle (by Philadelphia) in Cincinnati.  What’s done is done…so let’s move on; but first, let’s see what went wrong.

bsp; The Cowboys got a much-needed victory, on the road, against a formidable football team in the Washington Redskins.  The ‘Boys are now 6-4, and they are in the hunt for a wild-card berth.  For the Cowboys to win the division, it would take a miracle, as the G-Men won, once again, and they are now 9-1.  Did the Cowboys turn the corner?  Are they the same team that started 3-0?  Are they the Super Bowl favorites, once again?  Hardly!  But, they are definitely…back in the saddle!

Winners - Pittsburgh Steelers

4) Dallas Cowboys @ Washington Redskins

Tony Romo makes his comeback on Sunday night as the Cowboy nation hopes Dallas can play like they did before Week 4 and all of last regular-season. This game is huge for the Cowboys. They need to win this game. I think they will. A loss would be crippling especially to a division opponent and especially to rivals Washington. The Cowboys haven't forgotten about the Redskins going into Dallas in Week 4 and literally sucking the time out of the clock in the 4th to deal Dallas their first loss of the season, no. I'm not a Cowboys fan, but coming off a bye, I can't see the Cowboys losing this one. I'll go with the Cowboys.

The Cowboys have a big game coming up this weekend against the Redskins.  But aren’t they all big games?  Yes, but this is a defining game for the 2008 Cowboys.  If the ‘Boys lose…the season is all but over.  If they win…they are back in the hunt for the wild-card race.  The Cowboys were the pre-season favorites to win the Super Bowl…but that’s why they play the games!

The Cowboys have a bye this week and it could not have come at a better time.  The ‘Boys are in a tailspin, as they have plummeted to the bottom of the NFC East, at 5-4.  All hope is not lost though!  Heading into this season they were the “en vogue” pick to represent the NFC in the Super Bowl.  They were the clear-cut favorite to win the whole enchilada!  Now, they must regroup, get healthy, and somehow salvage the season.

MID-SEASON NFL AWARDS & RECOGNITION

MOST OVER-PUBLICIZED
5. Jeremy Shockey (NO)—When he was acquired in the off-season from the Giants, many lauded the move. On paper, it truly seemed like a “win-win” scenario for both teams. One expert even went so far as to say that the outspoken tight end would have the same type of impact on the Saints as Randy Moss had on the Patriots in 2007 (sorry, Mr. Jaworski). Thus far, having played in 5 of 8 games, Shockey has 200 receiving yards, zero touchdowns, and two lost fumbles. Recently, he lashed out at his new organization for rushing him back on the playing field after he suffered a sports hernia earlier in the season. Even with crucial injuries at skill positions, the 4-4 Saints have had little trouble moving the ball on offense. If Shockey doesn’t score a touchdown shut up soon, he might find out the hard way just how expendable he actually is.

The newly acquired crystal ball went 3-1 in its debut week, which leaves me 4 games under .500…we’re getting there!  That’s an impressive start for a young and naïve crystal ball.  It performed well in its new role…many people are relying on it…that’s a lot of pressure!  It clearly has better prognosticating skills than its predecessor.  Maybe the new mahogany base it sits on, gave it a sense of prestige.  Well, for whatever reason…I’ll take it!  Now let’s review what happened this past week:

The Cowboys are sitting at 4-3, having lost three out of their last four games after a 3-0 start.  This is not how Jerry Jones had envisioned this season unfolding.  The Cowboys had 13 Pro-Bowlers last year.  They had 22 of 24 starters returning (Marion Barber replaced Julius Jones and Zach Thomas replaced Akin Ayodele).  Jerry had good reason for optimism.  The Cowboys had a decent draft by selecting Felix Jones and bolstering their cornerback depth. They also acquired Adam Jones on a draft day trade.  The Cowboys were 13-3 last year; a Super Bowl would surely be in their grasp this year?

When Bill Parcells resigned as the head coach of the Dallas Cowboys, Jerry Jones did an extensive search to find his replacement.  It was believed, at the time, that Norv Turner was the front-runner.  The new head coach was going to inherit Jason Garrett, as Mr. Jones had already hired Garrett as the OC.  In the end, Jones decided on Wade Phillips.  The reasoning was that the Cowboys defense needed a proven “3-4 guy” to take what Parcells started to the next level.

Week 7 preview

Hello East fans,

As we head into the critical part of the season, the East sets up for a huge weekend of football. Last week’s slip up by every team except Philly made the race a lot tighter. We do not know if Mr. Jessica Simpson will play this Sunday after speaking with Brett over the week. Eli seems to have a injury similar to SuperFive’s and the Skins are wondering if they really lost to the Rams or not.

A few minutes before the NFL trade deadline on Tuesday afternoon, Jerry Jones pulled off a blockbuster deal for WR Roy Williams of the Detroit Lions.  Yes, I said “blockbuster”!  Keep in mind that trades are very rare in the NFL…especially at the trade deadline!  The Cowboys gave Detroit a 1st, a 3rd, and a 6th round draft choice.  In return the Cowboys received Roy Williams and Detroit’s 7th rounder.  Did Jerry overpay?  Did Jerry panic?  That would be NO and NO!

Yesterday, the Cowboys went to the University of Phoenix Stadium to take on the Cardinals.  The ‘Boys got lassoed by the Cards 30-24 in over-time.  It was a great finish to a rather lackluster game.  Sure Romo had 321 yards passing; Barber had 178 total yards from scrimmage, and even Patrick Crayton got in on the action with a 55-yard TD catch.  Owens had a humble 4 receptions for 36 yards and Witten contributed 4 catches for 55 yards.  But until the last 3 minutes and 17 seconds it was a boring game…but that’s why they play the full 60 minutes!

So I normally title my Monday blog: Monday Mourning due to being hungover from a full day of drinking and watching sports, hence the “mourning” because I have to get up, go to work, puke in the bathroom, and subsequently fall asleep in all of my meetings and get absolutely no work done. But today is different, mainly due to the fact that CBS’s and Fox’s regional coverage of NFL games in my area was HORRIBLE. Games that had a spread of +11 with no fantasy implications at all were being aired, so I went and watched polo (you know, the sport where guys on horses trot around and whack a ball with mallets). I had never been to a polo game before but we decided to go due to the possibility of attractive females (there are always beautiful women at horse events). We mingled with a few and made up some elaborate lies that we were just checking out the competition and had our horses stabled a few miles away. We were obviously out of place, with our cheers of “nice pass man!” and “shoooooot it!” but we wholeheartedly plan on attending it every Sunday for the rest of the season – pending what NFL games are on of course.

as Cowboys

How bout em Cowboys?! Well they didn't look too hot last week against the Washington Redskins. Very surprised at the outcome of that game, but the Redskins are playing good ball. The NFC East is the best Division in the NFL at the moment by far. The Division as a whole is 11-4. Not bad if I say so myself. Anyways back to the game. The Cowboys lose last week and look ahead to this week as the Cincinnati Bengals come to Big D aiming for their 1st victory. Bengals are bad. 0-4 is bad. Yes they came close to beating the defending Super Bowl Champions, but they didn't. "Good teams win the close games" as they say and the Bengals...well Bengals aren't good. 31st in Offense, 29th in Passing, 30th in Rushing, and a sort of decent 19th in defense. Decent for what the Bengals are known for on defense anyways in the past. Looking at both teams stats will tell this game alone. But throw the stats out the window for this one. I don't see the Cowboys losing back-to-back in Dallas to any team. I'm not predicting a blow out (which it could), I'm just predicting a Dallas win here. Chalk it up.

The Crying Game

The Terrell Owens story

Hello NFL fans,

Well here we are, week four of the third year with his last team. This will be his last team, I truly believe that. y thought they were!

In a very strange game, the New york Giants defeated the Washington Redskins with a hypocrital effort as they continued to show the inconsistency that has plagued them for years. For those who see the glass half full, remember that it was the last third of last season in which they could do no wrong-dominating defensively and operating the offense with care and efficiency. During the playoffs the enigma that is Eli Manning, who threw interceptions more often that a Tour de France cyclist takes enhancers, caught fire during that late stretch and lead the Giants to a historic ending. Well, here we go again.
