Shaun Hill

OK to get this started, I have to tell you why I've decided to write about the OC's Martz and Raye. I read an article that I found to be very interesting. I'll give a link at the end.

Last season, Mark Martz came to the 49ers with the thoughts of turning our offense into something special...

OK, evrybody is talking about our QB issues. I don't really see the problem. Alex Smith is coming of an injury that has not COMPLETELY healed but, he's throwing well at the OTA's.

This shouldn't cause panic for Hill fans. Hill is very much as good a QB as we've seen him be. I read somewhere that some think it might have been a fluke because of the offense that was being used by Martz. I don't care what offense is being run, if you have time to get the ball to your recievers down field, you'll complete 60-70% of your passes.

QB job.  Plagued by excessive turnovers, he was benched in favor of the savior from last year, Shaun Hill.  Our Head Coach Mike Nolan was replaced, our egotistical Offensive Coordinator Mike Martz was silenced, and our highly-vaunted TE Vernon Davis was benched.

We beat the Rams...barely! I won't get into everything that went wrong for the 9ers, i.e. Shaun Hills' poor decision making, the bad play of the offensive line, the poor job of Deshaun Foster, etc.  Instead, i'm going to focus on the positives of the game.

Can we get a quarterback?  After watching today's "game" against the Miami Dolphins, I have never been more fully convinced that our issues are very simple.  We need a quality, veteran quarterback.  I sincerely think a good, and I stress "GOOD" quarterback can transform this team to an 11-5 or 12-4 team next year.  It's that simple.  If you've been watching the season of malcontent for many other teams, you know as well as I do that there will be some good quarterback available in the offseason.  I wouldn't be suprised if Donovan McNabb is available (I've blogged about this before), Carson Palmer will be out of Cincinnatti, one of the Browns quarterbacks will also be gone.  Marc Bulger is on his way out in St. Louis.  Any of these possibilities are leaps and bounds better than our current position.  How many 1, 2, or 3 yard out routes are we going to run?

to a degree, sure. it can be worked on... but Smith may be done in the crimson and gold.

3.) Shaun Hill - Paging Shaun Hill... paging Shaun Hill... what happened? you went from being the Niner darling late last season to a virtual afterthought in this quarterback battle. but it's not all your fault; you were doomed form the beginning. you are an improviser, and the new offense does not really allow for a lot of leeway for "improvisation". you go through your reads and make a pass... and your accuracy isn't the best. but don't worry, I think you'll be the primary backup before the season is through...
