       Terrell Owens, meanwhile, will be wooed by the Oakland Raiders and Al Davis so that he can continue his halfway house for cast-offs. Look out for the Denver Broncos though. The Broncos new coach, Josh McDaniels, probably has his new gig due to the risk of taking Randy Moss in a similar situation. Yes, the Broncos already have Brandon Marshall and Brandon Stokely, but that full receiving courps could look like the Patriots of recent years. Marshall, Stokely, and Owens could become the Rocky Mountain version of Stallworth, Moss, and Welker.

1) Houston Texans @ Oakland Raiders

The Houston Texans were officially eliminated from the playoffs at the end of Week 15 to no surprise after the shaky first half of the season, but faded playoff hopes hasn't kept the team down the past 4 weeks as they've played tough defense and good football overall. In the last 4 weeks the Texans have defeated (in order): Browns, Jaguars, Packers, Titans. Okay the Browns and Jaguars isn't too big of a deal, but going into Lambeau and dominating the Packers and then coming home and defeating the first place team and rival the Titans? That's a statement. This should be a layup for the Texans this week as they go into Oakland to face the 3-11 Raiders. A loss would be very disappointing for a team that has won 4 straight. I take the Texans in this one as they'll win their 5th straight game (hopefully).

He just keeps ticking, worn out old Greg Maddox won his 18th Gold Glove this past week. 

The playoff seedings in the MLL are set now.  Argonaut as the number one seed gets the 3rd place team in the WAC, Calaveras in the number 2 spot gets to drive down to Escalon and Summerville travels to Modesto for a game with Central Catholic.  Prospects don't look too good for an advance to the second round of any of the three teams, but as my good friend Ben always says, "You never know."

The alarm is going off in Big D as the Cowboys struggle for the second week in a row to find a win, the Vikings put up 41 in a loss, and Brett Farve gets the ball three times in overtime against the struggling Raiders, but can't chip any points in. So I normally title my Monday blog: Monday Mourning due to being hungover from a full day of drinking and watching sports, hence the “mourning” because I have to get up, go to work, puke in the bathroom, and subsequently fall asleep in all of my meetings and get absolutely no work done. But today is different, mainly due to the fact that CBS’s and Fox’s regional coverage of NFL games in my area was HORRIBLE. Games that had a spread of +11 with no fantasy implications at all were being aired, so I went and watched polo (you know, the sport where guys on horses trot around and whack a ball with mallets). I had never been to a polo game before but we decided to go due to the possibility of attractive females (there are always beautiful women at horse events). We mingled with a few and made up some elaborate lies that we were just checking out the competition and had our horses stabled a few miles away. We were obviously out of place, with our cheers of “nice pass man!” and “shoooooot it!” but we wholeheartedly plan on attending it every Sunday for the rest of the season – pending what NFL games are on of course.

There's something toxic emanating from California and it isn't the ever present smog that lingers over Los Angeles.

That stench is the the Niners secondary getting torched for big-play after big-play or the offensive line festering in the Bayou with six sacks. It's the most meddlesome owner in pro-sports embarrassing a once proud franchise on national television yet again. It's a .238 winning percentage for a young inexperienced head coach that became mired in the "Commitment to Excrement" coming out of Raider camp these days.

BLAST WEDNESDAYS

Hello NFL fans,

Well I am going to start up something new for all those NFL fans who have a lot to say but can’t get it out, enough. I have a lot of people writing, calling and just talking to me about the things that irk them about the NFL to include players, coaches, mascots, ticket prizes, play calls, cheerleaders…yes even that. I recently decided why not make a weekly manuscript about the things that hurt the fans, I know many legions of people out there are upset about their teams in some way shape or form. This is how we are going to do it every Wednesday, since it is the most boring day of the football week. Mondays and Sundays are game days. Tuesdays are layovers from the previous games and we seem to have nothing available in the middle of the week, until Friday when you get into college football mode.

JT O'Sullivan's recent moderate success (96.3 rating, 1 td, 1 int) has served only to make the 49ers qb situation murkier. What we know: Alex Smith is gone (thankfully), JT O'Sullivan is a free agent. What we do not know: Is JT O'Sullivan the qb who can finally make the 49ers call off our search for a savior at quarterback? Or is he merely a decent player filling in until we find the franchise player we need. The niners really have 3 realistic scenarios for qb.

September 19, 2008 Red Zone Ranger: week 3 NFL This week in the pros it seems like there is a subtle changing of the guard going on in the power structure of the teams. Is Buffalo finally for real this time? They've done this before in years gone by where they come out fast and turn some heads, but usually by week five they start to unravel like a cheap suit. Injuries or lack of staying power, or something. But this year they did look impressive against two playoff teams from last year. If they blow out the Raiders this week, maybe I'll look for a comfortable place on the bandwagon to plant myself. And are the Broncos riding 'high' again? Cutler looks like he has a cannon for an arm and he knows how to use it. They have historically been known as an offensive powerhouse but unless they can find that genuine old skool 'orange crush' their defense will once again prove to be their achilles heel.

The San Francisco 49ers, Dallas Cowboys, Green Bay Packers, Oakland Raiders, and Pittsburgh Steelers made appearance after appearance in the post-season and nearly every other team was just window dressing. Later, when the cap came along things slowly changed. The shift has been interesting and it has taken me a bit to become accustomed to teams from smaller markets and without storied pasts gaining prominence.
