Who am I?

California native, bay area based, recent Reno NV transplant. Niner fan since I took a stand during the preseason in 1967 when the Mercury News showed
a helmet to helmet display of Oakland and San Fran about to play that week.
I suffered through the years when Brodie would take us to the red zone and give up the pick, then all the way till Joe delivered us the the Promised Land. And we were on top of the football universe for a long, long time. and we took it for granted. But this year we finally have got a decent defense and a real quarterback.. Game On!

The Niners could easily make the playoffs this year if they upgraded the pass rush. That was obvious the first two games this year. Just one more fireplug in the middle of the defensive line and another Gary big hands or Fred Dean to make the opposing QB quake in his boots.

Saturday, September 27, 2008 Red Zone Ranger NFL week IV What can you say about last week's games. Some surprises, some expected results. Some teams like Detroit, St. Louis, probably the Raiders and the Texans are headed for losing seasons. Sure they might make things interesting in certain weeks. The Raiders and the Texans still have a way of being entertaining as they find ways to end up on the short end of the score. But it looks like the state of Ohio is going to be under football purgatory this year. But other teams like the
Bills and Broncos are already starting to show their weaknesses. (Like stopping the run). And I guess I was right about the Patriots. In my last post I questioned their strength without Brady and the mighty fish exposed them. We also saw how the Packers QB Rodgers stock has fallen.

September 19, 2008 Red Zone Ranger: week 3 NFL This week in the pros it seems like there is a subtle changing of the guard going on in the power structure of the teams. Is Buffalo finally for real this time? They've done this before in years gone by where they come out fast and turn some heads, but usually by week five they start to unravel like a cheap suit. Injuries or lack of staying power, or something. But this year they did look impressive against two playoff teams from last year. If they blow out the Raiders this week, maybe I'll look for a comfortable place on the bandwagon to plant myself. And are the Broncos riding 'high' again? Cutler looks like he has a cannon for an arm and he knows how to use it. They have historically been known as an offensive powerhouse but unless they can find that genuine old skool 'orange crush' their defense will once again prove to be their achilles heel.

Something about the Monday night game made me feel good posted on 09/16/2008

Something about the Monday night game really made me feel good. I t was one of those old fashioned shootouts that you could tell wasn’t

going to be decided until the last seconds ticked off in the fourth quarter.  As abrasive as Tony Kornhiser is, he seemed to have called it correctly  early in the second quarter when we started seeing McNabb and Romo taking turns leading their respective offenses up and down the field. Interesting

how otherwise solid defenses seem to get pushed around when the elite players of the league decide to crank it up a notch and go after each other, the

way Romo was trying outdo McNabb and McNabb was trying  to show up T.O. with Jerry Jones up in the booth looking like he was getting ready to offer Emmit a one day contract to suit up in the second half and help his team win this particular game. Forget about tomorrow just win this game tonight.  Don’t let those damn Eagles show me up again in my own house.
